
Leibniz Research Centre for Working Environment and Human Factors (IfADo)
The IfADo contributes multidisciplinary research for the benefit and welfare of the working individual. It is based in Dortmund and is affiliated to the Technical University Dortmund, where it is involved in the educational program through the organisation of various lectures. The IfADo pays particular attention to researching the potentials and risks of modern labour on the basis of life and behavioural science. The results serve to design guidelines for a beneficial and healthy working environment.
As part of the "Loss of the Night" project, the IZW researches on the subproject "Light pollution – Effect on humans and the chronobiological impact of artificial nocturnal lighting". Herein, it focuses on the quantificated suppression of melatonin synthesis caused by light pollution, on the stability of the circadian phase position, sleep disorders and possible health consequences, as well as possible consequences, caused by disturbances of the various functions of melatonin.
