Tracking cities at night from the International Space Station ISS

Berlin by Night on the 5th of April 2012

Amazing new night images from André Kuipers with the Nightpod from the International Space Station ISS. More Information about the Nightpod campagne of the European Space Agency here.

here the original image of ESA/NASA (resolution around 45m/pixel).

Easy to spot is the historically different illumination of the old East and West Berlin. In the detailed view the Tegel airport is brightly visible in the upper left corner and the street Straße des 17 Juni with the Victory Column and the Regierunsviertel are also clearly visible.

For comparison, the night scene of Berlin NightSat mission in 2004:

And in addition here a wonderful video illustrating the light pollution around the world by the crew of ISS.
